Indications:
Avaspray Nasal Spray is used to treat symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis in patients aged 2 years and older. Avaspray Inhalation Powder is prescribed for once-daily maintenance therapy of asthma in patients aged 5 years and older, focusing on prophylactic treatment rather than acute bronchospasm relief.
Description:
Avaspray contains Fluticasone Furoate, a synthetic corticosteroid with potent anti-inflammatory properties. It is formulated as an aqueous suspension delivered via a metered spray pump for topical application to the nasal mucosa.
Pharmacology:
Fluticasone Furoate exerts its action by targeting various inflammatory mediators involved in allergic rhinitis and asthma, thereby reducing inflammation in the nasal passages and airways.
Dosage:
For Fluticasone Furoate Nasal Spray:
- Adults and children over 12 years: Typically administered as 1-2 sprays per nostril daily.
- Children aged 2-11 years: Usually administered as 1 spray per nostril daily.
For Fluticasone Furoate Inhalation Capsule:
- Adults and adolescents: Typically prescribed as 1 inhalation daily, adjusted based on the severity of asthma.
Administration:
Before use, shake the Avaspray bottle gently. Prime the spray pump before the first use or if not used for a week or more. Clean the nasal spray device weekly by washing with warm water and allowing to air dry.
Interaction:
Exercise caution when co-administering Avaspray with potent inhibitors of cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4), such as ritonavir, which may increase drug exposure.
Contraindications:
Avoid using Fluticasone Furoate Nasal Spray in individuals with known hypersensitivity to any of its components.
Side Effects:
Potential side effects include nasal dryness and nosebleeds with nasal spray use. Common respiratory infections may occur with the inhalation capsule.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Avaspray is classified as Pregnancy Category C. Its use during pregnancy should be carefully considered based on potential benefits versus risks. It is unknown whether Fluticasone Furoate is excreted in breast milk; caution is advised during lactation.
Precautions & Warnings:
Rare hypersensitivity reactions and local adverse effects, such as nasal septum perforation, have been reported with intranasal corticosteroids. Avoid excessive doses of Avaspray to minimize potential systemic effects.
Special Populations:
In elderly patients and those with severe hepatic impairment, use Avaspray cautiously due to potential for decreased drug metabolism and clearance.
Therapeutic Class:
Avaspray belongs to the therapeutic class of nasal steroid preparations.
Storage Conditions:
Store Avaspray at temperatures below 30°C, protect from light, and keep out of reach of children.
