Indications
Arbitel Plus is prescribed for the management of hypertension, either as a monotherapy or in combination with other antihypertensive medications. Effectively lowering blood pressure can significantly reduce the risk of both fatal and non-fatal cardiovascular events, such as strokes and heart attacks.
Always follow a registered medical professional’s advice before use.
Pharmacology
Telmisartan: This medication is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that prevents the vasoconstriction and aldosterone release effects of angiotensin II by selectively blocking its AT1 receptor. This results in blood vessel dilation and reduced blood pressure without affecting heart rate. Unlike other ARBs, Telmisartan has a much stronger affinity for the AT1 receptor, promoting greater blood pressure control.
Hydrochlorothiazide: A thiazide diuretic, it reduces sodium and chloride reabsorption in the kidneys, thus increasing their excretion. This leads to reduced plasma volume, lower blood pressure, and increased potassium loss, which can be counterbalanced by the use of ARBs like Telmisartan.
Dosage & Administration
- For patients inadequately controlled with Telmisartan alone (80 mg), initiate Arbitel Plus 80 mg/12.5 mg daily. The dose can be increased to 160 mg/25 mg after 2-4 weeks if needed.
- For those with hypokalemia on Hydrochlorothiazide: Switch to Arbitel Plus 80 mg/12.5 mg daily, with potential dose adjustments after 2-4 weeks.
- Arbitel Plus can also be used in combination with other antihypertensive drugs.
Always follow a registered medical professional’s advice before use.
