Description

Indications

Antista is recommended for the treatment of the following conditions:

  • Urticaria

Pharmacology

Chlorpheniramine Maleate, an alkylamine antihistamine, is a potent histamine H1-receptor blocker used for its antihistaminic properties. It competitively blocks the H1-receptor, providing relief with less sedation compared to promethazine.

Dosage & Administration

  • Adult: The usual dose is 4 mg every 4-6 hours, with a maximum of 24 mg daily.
  • Children:
    • 6-12 years: 2 mg every 4-6 hours, up to 12 mg daily.
    • 2-5 years: 1 mg every 4-6 hours, up to 6 mg daily.
    • 1-2 years: 1 mg twice daily.
    • Use is not recommended below 1 year of age. Follow healthcare provider’s advice.

Interaction

Chlorphenamine maleate may interact with substances like calcium chloride, kanamycin sulfate, noradrenaline acid tartrate, pentobarbital sodium, and meglumine adipiodone.

Contraindications

Chlorpheniramine is contraindicated in patients hypersensitive to this agent and in newborn or premature infants.

Side Effects

Antista is generally well-tolerated, but may occasionally cause drowsiness, dizziness, muscular weakness, and gastrointestinal upset.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Avoid use during pregnancy, especially in the first trimester, and in lactating mothers.

Precautions & Warnings

Use Antista with caution in patients with glaucoma and prostatic hypertrophy. Avoid activities requiring mental alertness, such as driving or operating machinery, during treatment with chlorpheniramine.

Overdose Effects

Overdose may lead to CNS depression (sedation, apnea, CV collapse) or stimulation (insomnia, hallucinations, tremors). Children may experience atropine-like symptoms such as dry mouth, dilated pupils, flushing, and hyperthermia.
