Indications
This gel serves as an effective treatment for various types of scars, including:
- Hypertrophic and keloid scars
- Scars resulting from surgery
- Scars from amputation, burns, and trauma
- Scars caused by traumatic tendon contracture
Pharmacology
Extract of Allium cepa: Derived from onion membrane, this extract exhibits anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting the secretion of inflammatory mediators and anti-allergic effects. It also inhibits the growth of fibroblasts, particularly keloidal fibroblasts, and possesses bactericidal properties, promoting primary wound healing while preventing excessive scar formation.
Heparin: When applied locally, heparin inhibits fibroblast proliferation and increases tissue hydration, reducing irritation and inflammation.
Allantoin: Known for stimulating cellular proliferation and supporting healthy cell development, allantoin facilitates scar treatment by promoting epithelialization and the formation of elastic tissue.
Clinical Studies
Studies evaluating the efficacy of Extract of Allium cepa, Heparin & Allantoin gel have shown significant reduction in scar width and height following treatment. Notably, a reduction of 31.5% in mean scar width and 47.8% reduction of mean scar height were observed in a study involving 1,268 patients.
Dosage & Administration
Apply the gel to the affected area 3-4 times daily, gently massaging it for better penetration. Continue massaging in a circular motion until the gel is completely absorbed. Treatment duration may vary depending on the size and severity of the scar.
Safety
The gel is well-tolerated and safe for use, even in children and infants, as demonstrated in numerous clinical studies.
Interaction
No known drug interactions have been reported.
Contraindications
Avoid use in patients with known hypersensitivity to any of the gel’s ingredients.
Side Effects
While generally well-tolerated, rare cases of local irritations such as slight redness and itching may occur. These side effects typically do not necessitate discontinuation of treatment.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use caution during pregnancy and lactation, as there are limited studies conducted in these populations.
Precautions & Warnings
