Description

Indications

Angilock Plus is prescribed to manage hypertension and is also recommended for lowering the risk of stroke in patients with hypertension and left ventricular hypertrophy.

Pharmacology

Angiotensin II, a potent vasoconstrictor and a key player in hypertension, is formed from angiotensin I by angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE). Losartan, the active ingredient in Angilock Plus, and its metabolite counteract the vasoconstrictor and aldosterone-secreting effects of angiotensin II by selectively blocking its binding to AT1 receptors. This action helps in reducing blood pressure without inhibiting ACE or affecting other hormone receptors or ion channels crucial for cardiovascular regulation. Hydrochlorothiazide, another component, functions as a thiazide diuretic by increasing the excretion of sodium and chloride, thereby reducing plasma volume and blood pressure.

Dosage

For hypertension, the usual starting dose of Angilock Plus 50/12.5 is one tablet taken once daily, which may be increased to 100/25 once daily if necessary. Patients with left ventricular hypertrophy may start with 50/12.5, with the option to escalate to 100/12.5 and then to 100/25 if required. The antihypertensive effect typically manifests within three weeks of starting the therapy. Special dosage adjustments are recommended for severe hypertension and elderly patients.

Administration

Angilock Plus can be taken with or without food, as advised by a healthcare professional.

Interaction

Angilock Plus has minimal interactions with other medications, but caution is advised when co-administering with certain drugs to avoid potential adverse effects on blood pressure and electrolyte balance.

Contraindications

The combination of Losartan and Hydrochlorothiazide is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to any of its components or sulfonamide-derived drugs.

Side Effects

Common side effects of Angilock Plus include dizziness, hypotension, hyperkalemia, and gastrointestinal disturbances. Serious adverse effects are rare but may include angioedema and electrolyte imbalances.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Angilock Plus should be avoided during pregnancy and lactation due to potential risks to fetal and neonatal health. Alternative treatment options should be considered for breastfeeding mothers.

Precautions & Warnings

Special precautions are recommended for patients with hypersensitivity, renal impairment, or hepatic impairment. Regular monitoring of serum electrolytes is advised, especially in patients at risk of electrolyte imbalances.

Use in Special Populations

Dosage adjustments may be necessary in patients with renal or hepatic impairment. The safety and efficacy of Angilock Plus in pediatric patients have not been established.

Overdose Effects

Overdose of Angilock Plus may lead to hypotension, electrolyte imbalances, and dehydration. Supportive treatment should be initiated in case of overdose.

Therapeutic Class

Angilock Plus belongs to the therapeutic class of combined antihypertensive preparations.

Storage Conditions
