Description

Indications

Alice tablet serves as an effective remedy for various conditions, including:

  • Strongyloidiasis
  • Onchocerciasis
  • Filariasis
  • Scabies
  • Head lice

Strongyloidiasis of the intestinal tract: Alice is specifically recommended for the treatment of intestinal strongyloidiasis caused by the nematode parasite Strongyloides stercoralis. Extensive clinical studies have demonstrated high cure rates ranging from 64% to 100% after a single dose of 200-mcg/kg of Alice.

Onchocerciasis: Alice is suitable for the treatment of onchocerciasis due to the nematode parasite Onchocerca volvulus. Clinical trials conducted in onchocerciasis-endemic regions have supported its efficacy, with a recommended dosage designed to address the condition effectively.

Pharmacology

Ivermectin, the active ingredient in Alice, exhibits selective binding to glutamate-gated chloride ion channels in invertebrate nerve and muscle cells. This mechanism leads to increased membrane permeability to chloride ions, resulting in hyperpolarization of nerve or muscle cells and eventual parasite death.

Dosage & Administration

For both treatment and prophylaxis, specific dosages of Ivermectin based on body weight are recommended. These guidelines ensure optimal effectiveness and safety in addressing conditions such as strongyloidiasis and onchocerciasis.

Interactions

Reports suggest rare instances of increased INR (International Normalized Ratio) when Alice is co-administered with warfarin.

Contraindications

Alice is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to any of its components.

Side Effects

Various adverse reactions have been reported, albeit rarely, with the use of Alice. These include gastrointestinal discomfort, nervous system-related symptoms, and skin reactions. Monitoring and consultation with healthcare professionals are advised if such reactions occur.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Ivermectin’s safety during pregnancy is not established, and caution is advised. Nursing mothers should consult healthcare providers before using Ivermectin due to its excretion in human milk.

Precautions & Warnings

Patients treated with Alice for onchocerciasis may experience reactions, including the Mazzotti reaction. Professional guidance and monitoring during treatment are essential.

Use in Special Populations

While Alice’s safety and efficacy have been demonstrated, caution is advised in pediatric and geriatric populations due to limited clinical data.

Therapeutic Class

Alice belongs to the anthelmintic class, offering targeted relief for parasitic infections.

Storage Conditions

To maintain efficacy, it’s recommended to store Alice in a dry place below 30°C, away from light, and out of reach of children.
