Indications
This product is indicated for the management of gastric reflux, heartburn, and associated flatulence. It is also suitable for alleviating heartburn experienced during pregnancy and for any case of epigastric or retrosternal discomfort caused by gastric reflux.

Pharmacology
Upon ingestion, the product interacts swiftly with gastric acid to create a gel-like raft of alginic acid. This raft has a near-neutral pH and floats on the contents of the stomach, effectively preventing gastroesophageal reflux for up to four hours. In severe instances, the raft may reflux into the esophagus, providing a soothing demulcent effect.
Dosage & Administration
For children aged 1-2 years. For children under 1 year or over 2 years, consult a registered physician.
- Weight under 4.5 kg: 1 sachet, up to 6 times daily.
- Weight over 4.5 kg: 2 sachets, up to 6 times daily.
For bottle-fed infants: Mix each sachet into 115 ml (4 fl oz) of formula. Shake well before feeding.
For breastfed infants and children up to 2 years: Combine each sachet with 5 ml (1 teaspoon) of cooled boiled water to create a smooth paste. Add another 10 ml (2 teaspoons) of cooled boiled water and mix well. For breastfed infants, administer Gaviscon Infant during the feed using a spoon or bottle. For other infants, give Gaviscon Infant at the end of each meal using a spoon or bottle.
Do not exceed six doses in a 24-hour period. Not suitable for children over 2 years, adults, or the elderly.

Interaction
Allow a 2-hour interval between the intake of Algicid and the administration of other medications, especially tetracyclines, digoxin, fluoroquinolone, iron supplements, ketoconazole, neuroleptics, thyroid hormones, penicillamine, beta-blockers (e.g., atenolol, metoprolol, propranolol), glucocorticoids, chloroquine, bisphosphonates, and estramustine.
Contraindications
This product should not be used by individuals with known or suspected hypersensitivity to any of the active ingredients or excipients, including methyl parahydroxybenzoate and propyl parahydroxybenzoate.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Clinical studies involving over 281 pregnant women, along with extensive post-marketing data, indicate no malformative effects or neonatal toxicity associated with the active substances. Algicid may be used during pregnancy when clinically necessary. No adverse effects have been observed in breastfed infants of mothers treated with Algicid, making it safe for use during breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings
If symptoms persist after seven days, a reevaluation of the clinical situation is necessary. This product contains 255.76 mg (11.12 mmol) of sodium per 20 ml dose, which is 12.79% of the WHO’s recommended maximum daily sodium intake. The maximum daily dosage of Algicid JR equates to 51.15% of this recommendation. Each 20 ml dose also contains 260 mg (6.5 mmol) of calcium; caution is advised for patients with hypercalcemia, nephrocalcinosis, or recurrent calcium-based kidney stones.
Overdose Effects
Instances of overdose are rare. If an overdose occurs, seek advice from a registered physician immediately.
