Indications
Alarid eye drops are prescribed for alleviating symptoms associated with allergic conjunctivitis, including itchy, watery, red, and swollen eyes and eyelids. It effectively treats conditions such as vernal keratoconjunctivitis, blepharitis, and giant papillary conjunctivitis.
Pharmacology
Ketotifen, the active ingredient in Alarid eye drops, acts as a potent anti-allergic agent by blocking histamine (H1) receptors, inhibiting the release of allergic mediators like histamine, leukotrienes, and prostaglandins. It also stabilizes mast cells and reduces chemotaxis and activation of eosinophils.
Dosage & Administration
For adults and children aged 3 years and above, the recommended dosage is one drop in the affected eye(s) twice daily, with an interval of 8-12 hours between doses. Consult a doctor for children under 3 years of age.
Interaction
When using Alarid eye drops with other eye medications, allow at least a 5-minute interval between applications.
Contraindications
Alarid eye drops are contraindicated in individuals with hypersensitivity to Ketotifen or any of its components.
Side Effects
