Indications

Acical-C is recommended for the following conditions:

• Increased Calcium and Vitamin C Requirements: Such as during pregnancy, lactation, periods of rapid growth (childhood, adolescence), and in older adults.
• During Illness and Recovery: Helps support the body during infectious diseases and convalescence.
• Calcium and Vitamin C Deficiency: Effective in addressing deficiencies of these essential nutrients.

Pharmacology

Calcium is a vital pharmacological agent used primarily to correct calcium deficiency. Adequate levels of calcium in the blood are critical for various bodily functions, and the body cannot tolerate deficiencies, even briefly. Vitamin C is an essential nutrient that humans must obtain from their diet as the body cannot produce it. It is a powerful antioxidant and plays a crucial role in enhancing the body’s response to stress and improving immune defense against infections.

Dosage & Administration

• Children (3 to 7 years): ½ effervescent tablet daily.
• Adults & children over 7 years: 1 effervescent tablet daily.

Dissolve 1 tablet in a glass of water before consuming.

Interactions

Potentially Hazardous Interactions:

• Digoxin, tetracycline, furosemide, pentagastrin.
• Aminophylline, bleomycin, erythromycin, lactobionate, nafcillin, nitrofurantion, conjugated estrogens, sulfafurazole, diethanolamine, chloramphenicol.

Potentially Beneficial Interactions:

• Vitamin D, oxytocin, and prostaglandins.
• Vitamin C can enhance iron absorption.

Contraindications

Acical-C should not be used in patients with:

• Hypercalcemia (such as in hyperparathyroidism, vitamin D overdose, or conditions like plasmocytoma and bone metastases).
• Severe hypercalciuria or severe renal failure.
• Individuals with hyperoxalauria, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, or iron overload.

Excessive doses may cause gastrointestinal upset.

Side Effects

• In rare cases, mild gastrointestinal discomfort (such as bloating or diarrhea) may occur.
• Prolonged use of high doses may lead to the formation of kidney stones in susceptible individuals.

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Oral calcium has not been shown to increase the risk of birth defects in pregnancy.
• While calcium may be excreted in breast milk, the amount is unlikely to cause harm to the infant.
• Vitamin C is safe for use during pregnancy and lactation.

Precautions & Warnings

• In individuals with mild hypercalciuria (greater than 300 mg or 7.5 mmol/24 hours), mild to moderate kidney impairment, or a history of urinary stones, monitoring of calcium excretion is recommended. The dosage should be adjusted or discontinued if necessary.
• High doses of vitamin D and its derivatives should be avoided unless specifically directed by a healthcare professional.
• Caution is advised when using Acical-C in patients with severe renal dysfunction, especially those on aluminum-containing medications.
• Diabetic patients should be aware of the sugar content in this product.

Overdose Effects

• Acute overdose is rare, but gastrointestinal symptoms are likely to occur. Severe hypercalcemia is unlikely unless taken with high doses of vitamin D or its derivatives.
