Indications
Ace is indicated for a variety of conditions including fever, common cold, influenza, headache, toothache, earache, bodyache, myalgia, neuralgia, dysmenorrhoea, sprains, colic pain, back pain, post-operative pain, postpartum pain, inflammatory pain, and post-vaccination pain in children. It also helps with rheumatic and osteoarthritic pain and joint stiffness.
Pharmacology
Ace contains Paracetamol, known for its analgesic and antipyretic properties with weak anti-inflammatory activity. It acts primarily in the central nervous system (CNS), increasing the pain threshold by inhibiting COX-1, COX-2, and COX-3 enzymes involved in prostaglandin synthesis.
Dosage & Administration
- Tablet: Adults can take 1-2 tablets every 4 to 6 hours, not exceeding 4 gm (8 tablets) daily. Children (6-12 years) should take ½ to 1 tablet 3 to 4 times daily.
- Extended Release Tablet: Adults and children over 12 years can take two tablets every 6 to 8 hours, with a maximum of 6 tablets in 24 hours.
- Syrup/Suspension: Dosage varies based on age, from infants to adults.
- Suppository: Dosage ranges for different age groups, including children and adults.
- Paediatric Drop: Suitable doses for infants and young children up to 7 years old.
Interaction and Contraindications
Ace may interact with barbiturates, tricyclic antidepressants, and alcohol, affecting metabolism. It is contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity to Paracetamol.
Side Effects, Pregnancy & Lactation, Precautions
Potential side effects of Ace are generally mild, although severe reactions such as liver damage and haematological issues have been reported. Caution is advised during pregnancy and lactation. Patients with severe renal or hepatic impairment should use Ace with care.
Overdose Effects and Management
Overdose can lead to liver damage and other serious complications. Immediate medical attention is crucial. Treatment with N-acetylcysteine is effective within a certain timeframe post-ingestion.
Therapeutic Class and Storage Conditions
Ace belongs to the therapeutic class of non-opioid analgesics. Store in a dry place away from light and heat, and keep out of reach of children.
