Indications
Abecab is used to treat hypertension, either as monotherapy or in combination with other antihypertensive drugs, to effectively lower blood pressure. It is recommended as initial treatment for patients who may require multiple medications to meet their blood pressure targets. The choice of combination therapy should be based on individual factors such as baseline blood pressure and the likelihood of achieving the desired results. Blood pressure targets may vary according to the patient’s risk profile.
Consult a registered healthcare provider before use.
Pharmacology
Abecab combines Amlodipine and Olmesartan Medoxomil to treat hypertension. Amlodipine, a calcium channel blocker, helps relax blood vessels by preventing calcium ions from entering vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle, reducing peripheral vascular resistance and lowering blood pressure. Olmesartan Medoxomil, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB), works by blocking the effects of angiotensin II, a potent vasoconstrictor, thus preventing vasoconstriction and aldosterone secretion, contributing to reduced blood pressure.
Dosage & Administration
- Initial Dose: Start with 5/20 mg once daily for 1-2 weeks, adjusting as needed up to a maximum of 10/40 mg per day.
- Elderly Patients: Amlodipine clearance is reduced in elderly patients, so a starting dose of 2.5 mg is recommended for those over 75 years.
- Maximum Dose: 10/40 mg daily for optimal results.
Consult your healthcare provider for personalized dosing.
