Indications

Prelab is indicated for:

• Intrauterine Growth Retardation (IUGR)
• Threatened Abortion
• Habitual Abortion
• Threatened Premature Delivery

Description

Prelab is a highly effective oral progestogen designed to address various pregnancy complications. It helps maintain pregnancy by stimulating the production of progesterone in the placenta. Clinical studies show that Prelab can normalize the levels of critical hormones and enzymes, significantly reducing the risks of abortion or preterm birth. It is well-tolerated, with minimal side effects, and plays a vital role in managing pregnancies at risk.

Pharmacology

Prelab contains allylestrenol, a progestational agent that enhances the synthesis of progesterone in the placenta. It helps prevent spontaneous uterine contractions and supports pregnancy by regulating placental hormone levels. It has no androgenic or estrogenic effects, making it a safe option for pregnant women without adverse impacts on the adrenal function.

Dosage & Administration

• Intrauterine Growth Retardation (IUGR): 1 tablet, 3 times daily for at least two months.
• Threatened Abortion: 1 tablet, 3 times daily until symptoms improve.
• Habitual Abortion: 1-2 tablets daily, starting as soon as pregnancy is confirmed, continuing for at least one month after the critical period.
• Threatened Premature Delivery: Dosage should be individualized, with up to 40 mg daily used in some cases.

In case of a missed dose, take as soon as remembered and continue the regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose.

Contraindications

Prelab should not be used in patients with:

• History of breast cancer or related breast conditions
• Severe liver disease (e.g., cholestatic jaundice, hepatitis)
• Undiagnosed vaginal bleeding
• Toxaemia of pregnancy
• History of seizures or migraines

Side Effects

Possible side effects include:

• Gastrointestinal discomfort: Nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain.
• Other: Rare instances of headaches or dizziness.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Prelab is specifically designed for use during pregnancy but should be discontinued after delivery. It may affect breastfeeding, so caution is advised.

Precautions & Warnings

Patients with:

• Heart disease, including congestive heart failure
• Seizures, epilepsy, or migraine history
• Renal dysfunction or respiratory issues (e.g., asthma, COPD)

should exercise caution while using Prelab.

Use in Special Populations

• Children: Prelab is not recommended for use in children under 16 years of age.

Overdose Effects

Overdose symptoms may include:

• Unusual drowsiness, rapid pulse, fainting, muscle rigidity, seizures, or loss of consciousness.
