Pharmacology

Chlorhexidine is a powerful cationic antimicrobial agent that offers broad-spectrum protection against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. It acts as both a bacteriostatic and bactericidal agent, depending on the concentration used. At higher concentrations, it destroys bacteria by binding to their negatively charged cell walls, disrupting cellular integrity. At lower concentrations, it slows bacterial growth by altering the osmotic balance and causing leakage of essential cellular components like potassium and phosphorus.

Dosage & Administration

• Hexitane Cream is typically applied by healthcare professionals during gynecological exams. A small amount is spread on the examiner’s gloved hand, and some is applied around the birth canal and perineum of the patient. This product is for external use only (skin or vaginal area).
• Hexitane Dental Gel should be used as prescribed by your dentist. It adheres strongly to the teeth, gums, and inner cheeks, eliminating harmful bacteria that cause gum inflammation, bad breath, tartar buildup, and other oral infections.

Interactions

Consult your healthcare provider if you are using or have recently used other medications. Hexitane may cause brown staining on fabrics that have been in contact with the cream or gel. This can occur when it comes into contact with hypochlorite bleaches.

Chlorhexidine Gluconate is contraindicated for individuals with a known hypersensitivity to Chlorhexidine.
