Indications
Prosma Eye Drops are designed to alleviate the signs and symptoms of allergic conjunctivitis, including itchy, watery, red, and swollen eyes and eyelids. It is effective for treating conditions such as vernal kerato-conjunctivitis, vernal keratitis, blepharitis, blepharo-conjunctivitis, and giant papillary conjunctivitis.
Note: Always use this medication as directed by a registered healthcare provider.
Pharmacological Action
Prosma Eye Drops contain Ketotifen, a potent anti-allergic agent known for its strong, long-lasting non-competitive histamine (H1) receptor blocking action. Ketotifen works by inhibiting the release of allergic mediators, including histamine, leukotrienes, and prostaglandins, from cells involved in Type I allergic reactions. Additionally, Ketotifen stabilizes mast cells, reduces eosinophil activation, and decreases chemotaxis.
Dosage and Administration
- For adults and children over 3 years: Instill 1 drop in the affected eye(s) twice daily, with an interval of 8-12 hours, but not exceeding two doses per day.
- For children under 3 years: Consult a healthcare provider before use.
Reminder: Always follow the guidance of a registered healthcare provider when using this medication.
Drug Interactions
When using Prosma Eye Drops alongside other eye medications, maintain a minimum 5-minute gap between the application of each product.
Contraindications
Do not use Prosma Eye Drops if you are allergic to Ketotifen or any of its components.

Pregnancy and Lactation
There is limited data on the use of Ketotifen Eye Drops during pregnancy. Since systemic absorption after ocular administration is low compared to oral use, caution is advised during pregnancy. Ketotifen may also pass into breast milk in small amounts when taken orally, though this is unlikely with topical use. It is considered safe to use Prosma 0.25% Eye Drops while breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings
Prosma Eye Drops contain benzalkonium chloride, which may accumulate in soft contact lenses. Lenses should be removed prior to applying the drops and can be reinserted no sooner than 15 minutes afterward.
Overdose
There have been no reported cases of overdose with Prosma Eye Drops. Accidental oral ingestion of up to 1.25 mg (the equivalent of the contents of a 5 ml bottle) would be only 60% of the recommended daily oral dose for a 3-year-old child. Clinical studies have shown no serious adverse effects even after ingesting up to 20 mg of Ketotifen.
