Indications

Ocarnix is recommended for the management of:

• Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
• Cardiovascular Diseases
• Congestive Heart Failure
• Renal Disorders
• Hypercholesterolemia
• Intermittent Claudication
• Cognitive Impairment and Dementia
• Down Syndrome
• Male Infertility
• Hyperthyroidism

Pharmacology

Levocarnitine, a naturally present compound, plays a crucial role in mammalian energy metabolism. It aids in the transport of long-chain fatty acids into mitochondria, the cellular powerhouse, supporting oxidation and energy release. Fatty acids serve as an energy source in all tissues except the brain, with skeletal and cardiac muscles relying predominantly on fatty acids for energy production.

Dosage & Administration

Levocarnitine Tablet:

• Adults: 330 mg, administered two to three times per day, adjusted based on response.
• Infants and Children: 50 to 100 mg/kg/day, divided into multiple doses, up to a maximum of 3 g/day. Initial dose should be 50 mg/kg/day, adjusted as per response.

Levocarnitine Oral Solution (for oral use only, not for injection):

• Adults: Recommended dose is 10 to 30 ml/day, starting at 10 ml and gradually increasing to assess tolerance.
• Infants and Children: Recommended dose is 50 to 100 mg/kg/day, starting at 50 mg/kg/day, up to a maximum of 30 ml/day. Dosing may range from 2 to 6 spoonfuls, as advised by a physician. Higher doses should be approached with caution.

Note: The solution may be taken alone or mixed into a beverage or other liquid foods. Space doses throughout the day, preferably with or after meals, to enhance tolerance.

Side Effects

Ocarnix is generally well tolerated, though mild side effects such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea may occasionally occur.

Pregnancy & Lactation

No conclusive studies are available on the use of Levocarnitine during pregnancy. Use during pregnancy should only be considered if essential. The effects of Levocarnitine supplementation in nursing mothers are not well-studied. Nursing mothers on Levocarnitine should weigh potential risks to the child against the benefits to the mother. Discontinuing breastfeeding or Levocarnitine supplementation may be considered.

Precautions & Warnings

Rapid consumption of Ocarnix may lead to gastrointestinal discomfort. Its safety and effectiveness have not been established for patients with renal impairment. Long-term use of high doses in individuals with severe renal dysfunction or on dialysis may result in the accumulation of metabolites (trimethylamine [TMA] and trimethylamine-N-oxide [TMAO]), which are typically excreted through urine.

Overdose Effects

No toxicity has been reported from Ocarnix overdose.
