Pharmacology
Seasonix contains Levocetirizine Dihydrochloride, the active enantiomer of cetirizine. It’s a next-generation, highly potent, non-sedative antihistamine known for its strong anti-allergic effects. Levocetirizine exhibits twice the H1 receptor affinity compared to cetirizine, providing rapid and long-lasting relief, making it suitable for once-daily dosing.
Dosage & Administration
- Adults and children aged 12 and older: 5 mg once daily.
- Children aged 6 to 11 years: 2.5 mg (half a tablet or 1 teaspoon of oral solution) once daily.
- Children aged 6 months to 5 years: 1.25 mg (half a teaspoon of oral solution) once daily.
Pediatric Use
For children aged 6 months to 17 years with chronic idiopathic urticaria, dosing recommendations are based on efficacy data from adults aged 18 and older.
Geriatric Use
Clinical studies lacked sufficient data to determine whether elderly patients respond differently than younger adults.
Hepatic Impairment
No dosage adjustments are required for individuals with only liver impairment.
Renal Impairment
- Mild (creatinine clearance 50-80 ml/min): 2.5 mg once daily.
- Moderate (creatinine clearance 30-50 ml/min): 2.5 mg every other day.
- Severe (creatinine clearance 10-30 ml/min): 2.5 mg twice per week (administered every 3-4 days).
- End-stage renal disease (creatinine clearance <10 ml/min): Levocetirizine is not recommended, including for patients on hemodialysis.
Take medication as per the advice of a registered healthcare professional.
Drug Interactions
No significant drug interactions have been observed with Seasonix.
Contraindications
Seasonix is contraindicated in individuals with hypersensitivity to levocetirizine, cetirizine, or hydroxyzine. It should not be used by patients with severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance <10 ml/min).
Side Effects
