Cicloson Nasal Spray

Indications

Cicloson nasal spray is designed to alleviate symptoms associated with seasonal allergic rhinitis in individuals aged 6 years and older, as well as perennial allergic rhinitis in those aged 12 years and older.

Pharmacology

Ciclesonide nasal spray is a corticosteroid that exhibits anti-inflammatory properties. It comes as an aqueous suspension intended for topical application to the nasal mucosa using a metering and atomizing spray pump. Before initial use or after not using it for four days or more, it is crucial to prime the pump.

Dosage

The recommended dosage is one spray (50 micrograms/spray) in each nostril once daily. The total daily dosage should not exceed two sprays per nostril (200 micrograms per day).

Priming Instructions: Shake the bottle gently and prime the Ciclesonide nasal spray by actuating it eight times prior to the first use or after four consecutive days of non-use.

Administration

How to Use the Nasal Spray:

1. Shake the bottle gently and remove the dust cover.
2. Hold the spray with your forefinger and middle finger on either side of the nozzle, and your thumb beneath the bottle. Press down until a fine mist appears. If this is your first use or if it hasn’t been used for a week or more, press the nasal applicator several times until a fine mist is released.
3. Clear your nostrils by gently blowing your nose.
4. Close one nostril and carefully insert the nasal applicator into the open nostril. Tilt your head forward slightly and keep the spray upright. Breathe in through your nose, and while inhaling, firmly press down on the white collar of the nasal applicator to release a spray.
5. Exhale through your mouth.
6. Repeat the above steps for the other nostril if additional doses are needed.

Cleaning Instructions: Clean the nasal spray at least once a week by following these steps:

1. Remove the dust cover.
2. Gently pull off the nasal applicator.
3. Wash both the applicator and dust cover in warm water.
4. Shake off excess water and allow them to air dry at room temperature, avoiding any direct heat.
5. Gently reattach the applicator to the bottle and replace the dust cover.

Side Effects

Cicloson nasal spray is minimally absorbed into the bloodstream, which typically results in fewer side effects. However, some individuals may experience side effects such as headaches, dizziness, nosebleeds, nasal congestion, or earaches.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Ciclesonide nasal spray falls under pregnancy category C. It should only be used during pregnancy if the potential benefits outweigh the possible risks to the fetus. It is unclear whether Ciclesonide is excreted in human breast milk; therefore, caution is advised when administered to nursing mothers.

Precautions & Warnings

Use Cicloson nasal spray with caution in patients with active or latent tuberculosis infections of the respiratory tract, untreated fungal, bacterial, or systemic viral infections, or ocular herpes simplex. There have been rare reports of nasal septal perforation, cataracts, and glaucoma associated with intranasal use. Localized infections of the nose and pharynx caused by Candida albicans have also been infrequently reported. While systemic effects from recommended doses are minimal, the risk may increase with higher doses. Hence, it is essential to avoid exceeding the recommended dosage.

Storage Conditions

Store at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Do not refrigerate. Protect from light and moisture, keeping away from the eyes. Ensure that it is kept out of reach of children. The bottle should be disposed of after 120 actuations or four months from the date of opening the pouch.
