Lacrison T Eye Drop

Indications

Lacrison T is prescribed for treating steroid-responsive inflammatory eye conditions where corticosteroid therapy is appropriate and where there is a risk or presence of superficial bacterial eye infection. It is effective for various inflammatory issues affecting the palpebral and bulbar conjunctiva, cornea, and the anterior segment of the eye. This includes allergic conjunctivitis, acne rosacea, superficial punctate keratitis, herpes zoster keratitis, iritis, and cyclitis. Additionally, it addresses chronic anterior uveitis, corneal injuries from chemical, radiation, or thermal burns, and foreign body penetration. Lacrison T is also used to manage post-operative inflammation following eye surgeries.

Pharmacology

Lacrison T combines Loteprednol, a corticosteroid, and Tobramycin, an aminoglycoside antibiotic. Loteprednol functions by inducing phospholipase A2 inhibitory proteins, which help regulate inflammation by inhibiting the release of arachidonic acid, a precursor for inflammatory mediators like prostaglandins and leukotrienes. Tobramycin works by disrupting bacterial protein synthesis, providing bactericidal effects against a range of pathogens.

Dosage & Administration

Shake well before each use. Administer one drop into the conjunctival sac of the affected eye(s) every four to six hours. For the first 24 to 48 hours, dosing may be increased to every one to two hours if necessary.

Interactions

Since Loteprednol Etabonate is not absorbed systemically when applied topically, it is unlikely to interact with other systemic medications.

Contraindications

Lacrison T is contraindicated for most viral corneal and conjunctival infections and should not be used by individuals with known hypersensitivity to any of its components or other corticosteroids.

Side Effects

Potential side effects include increased intraocular pressure, burning or stinging on application, vision disturbances, discharge, itching, excessive tearing, light sensitivity, corneal deposits, general eye discomfort, eyelid disorders, and other unspecified eye issues. Non-ocular side effects, such as headaches, have also been reported.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Pregnancy: There are no adequate studies on the use of Loteprednol Etabonate and Tobramycin during pregnancy. Use only if the benefits outweigh the potential risks to the fetus.

Lactation: Exercise caution when administering to nursing mothers due to potential risks.

Precautions & Warnings

• For ophthalmic use only.
• Monitor intraocular pressure if Lacrison T is used for 10 days or more.
• Long-term use may lead to fungal infections or overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms. Initiate appropriate therapy if superinfection occurs.
• Be aware of possible cross-sensitivity with other aminoglycoside antibiotics.

Special Populations: The safety and efficacy of Lacrison T in pediatric patients have not been established.

Store at room temperature, protected from light. Avoid touching the dropper tip to any surface. Discard four weeks after first opening. Protect from freezing.
