Indications
Neosten VT rectal preparation is designed for the relief of vaginal itching, burning, and discharge linked to recurrent vaginal yeast infections (Vaginal Candidiasis). It is also effective for treating vaginitis caused by Candida species and mycotic infections complicated by other microorganisms sensitive to this treatment.
Pharmacology
Clotrimazole, the active ingredient in Neosten VT, is a broad-spectrum antifungal medication used to treat various dermal infections. It targets pathogenic dermatophytes, yeasts, molds, and certain bacteria, including Staphylococci and Trichomonas. Clotrimazole works by disrupting the cell wall permeability of fungi, inhibiting ergosterol synthesis at lower concentrations, and causing additional membrane damage at higher doses.
Dosage
For Clotrimazole 100 mg & 200 mg Vaginal Preparation:
- Initial Infections: Typically, a 3-day course is sufficient for Candida vaginitis. Insert one Clotrimazole 200 mg vaginal preparation deeply into the vagina for three consecutive nights. The best method is to lie on your back with knees slightly bent.
- Recurrent Infections: A 6-day treatment is generally recommended. For six consecutive nights, insert one Clotrimazole 100 mg vaginal preparation deeply into the vagina. For severe cases, use two Clotrimazole 100 mg tablets (one in the morning and one in the evening) or one Clotrimazole 200 mg tablet daily for 6-12 days. Ensure treatment is completed before menstruation begins, and consider treating your partner with Clotrimazole cream to prevent re-infection.
For Clotrimazole 500 mg Vaginal Preparation:
- Single Dose Treatment: Insert one 500 mg vaginal tablet deeply into the vagina as a single dose. This is most effective when lying on your back with knees slightly bent. To prevent re-infection, treat your partner simultaneously with Clotrimazole cream.
Clotrimazole vaginal preparations are colorless and will not stain underwear.

Neosten VT is contraindicated for individuals with known hypersensitivity to any of its components.
Side Effects
Due to minimal absorption through the vaginal mucosa, systemic effects are unlikely. Local tolerance is generally good, though occasional irritation or a burning sensation may occur. These symptoms are usually not severe.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Clotrimazole should be used during pregnancy only if deemed necessary by a physician. It is poorly absorbed systemically after vaginal or skin application.
