Indications:
Evit (d-alpha tocopherol) capsules are prescribed to address and prevent Evit deficiency while also serving as an antioxidant to support various health conditions, including:

- Chemotherapy-induced Nerve Damage
- Male Infertility
- Age-related Macular Degeneration
- Keratectomy

Pharmacology:
Vitamin E functions as a potent antioxidant, safeguarding vital cellular components like polyunsaturated fatty acids, vitamin A, and vitamin C from oxidative damage. Deficiency in premature neonates may lead to issues such as irritability, edema, and hemolytic anemia. In adults and children with low serum tocopherol concentrations, various complications like creatinuria, muscle weakness, and increased hemolysis risk have been identified.
Dosage & Administration:
Dosage recommendations vary based on the condition:
- Age-related Macular Degeneration: 400-600 IU daily
- Heart Disease (enhancing nitrates’ effectiveness): 200 IU three times daily
- Dementia/Alzheimer’s Disease: 800-2000 IU one-two times daily
- Rheumatoid Arthritis Pain: 600 IU daily
- Improving Male Infertility: 200-600 IU daily
- Menstrual Syndrome: 400 IU daily
- Painful Menstrual Period: 200 IU daily
Interaction:

Side Effects:
High doses (>1000 IU daily) may lead to diarrhea and abdominal pain.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
High-dose vitamin E safety during pregnancy is uncertain, especially in the first trimester. Avoid use during lactation due to insufficient data on excretion in breast milk.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor prothrombin time and INR in vitamin K-deficient patients or those on anticoagulant therapy. Consider thrombosis risk, especially in patients predisposed or taking estrogen-containing contraceptives.
Overdose Effects:
Doses exceeding 1000 IU daily may cause transient gastrointestinal disturbances.
Therapeutic Class:
Evit falls under the category of Herbal and Nutraceuticals, specifically Vitamin-E Preparations.
Storage Conditions:
Store in a dry, cool place away from light and heat, and ensure it’s inaccessible to children.
